TMJ disfunction

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is responsible for the movement of opening and closing the mouth and serves as the connection between the jaw with the rest of the skull. It is one of the most complex joints in the human body and is the only one that is interconnected- meaning that when you move the right joint, the left joint also moves.

TMJ dysfunction refers to a problem with the temporomandibular joint and/or the muscles responsible for chewing.

It can causes symptoms such as:

– Headaches in the forehead, behind  the eyes and in the temples;
– Earache;
– Ringing in the ears;
– Difficulty opening the mouth;
– Difficulty chewing, especially hard foods.

This dysfunction is often related to stress/anxiety, which can lead to bruxism (clenching and grinding of the teeth). Therefore, if you frequently grind your teeth, you may be at risk of developing this dysfunction.
