Sinusitis

Sinusitis is the inflammation of the mucosa lining the paranasal sinuses (maxillary, ethmoid, sphenoid and frontal) often associated with an infectious of the nasal mucosa caused by viruses or bacteria, as well as allergies or other health conditions.
 

Types of Sinusitis and Symptoms

Maxillary sinusitis - Symptoms include headaches  in the frontal and maxillary regions, facial pain, discomfort while chewing, nasal congestion, sneezing, coughing and bad breath. Some individuals may also experience tenderness around the cheeks and eyes.

Ethmoid sinusitis - Often linked to maxillary sinusitis, it causes pain at the nasal root, behind the eyes, and between the eyes.

Frontal sinusitis - Characterized by pain in the frontal region of the head.

Sphenoid sinusitis - Less common but can cause headaches in the front and/or back of the head.
